Forthcoming Public Society Activities and Public Observing Sessions

This page provides an overview of our public activities this year. The left column provides all the details needed to attend one of our public observing sessions. The right column provides details of other activities, often jointly with other associations or societies, where we will be participating.

Public Observing Sessions

Observing sessions take place at The New Inn at Eccup, (Eccup Lane, Leeds, LS16 8AU)

These are open to anyone, member or not, with no charge. They are informal observing sessions where members use their telescopes and chat about astronomy. Non-members are welcome to look through our telescopes, to ask about them, or just to chat about astronomy. They are in the field of an Inn where refreshments, toilets and meals are usually available.

Please ensure that all children are supervised closely by a responsible adult and that they don't leave their group. Please dress warmly, which usually includes hat, gloves and outdoor shoes. A small red torch is useful. Leeds Astronomy Society cannot be responsible for accidents on the field. Please turn car headlights off as soon as possible after parking. Please try not to handle telescopes when looking through them and don't allow any glass surfaces to be touched.

They are held regularly most months, sometimes on Wednesdays and sometimes on Fridays. They stop over Summer when sunset is too late to be useful. The strange pattern of dates is to avoid the full moon, which makes the sky too bright to allow much observing. Start times vary according to the sunset. Please see the home page for the next observing session.
